ECOS 2020, 33rd International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation and Environmental Impact of Energy Systems¶

ECOS 2020, the 33rd conference, will be held in Osaka for the second time in Japan. The purpose of the conference is for participants to present new research results and exchange views on performance, economics, and environmental impact of various energy systems. We cordially welcome you to Osaka from all over the world. We expect that you will enjoy a fruitful week through the conference and Japanese local cultures.

Postponed the virtual conference test-drive to 31 August

We appreciate volunteers who uploaded their slides and videos on the program environment so far.
EasyChair accepted that we, ECOS 2020, can test the VCS (Virtual Conference Solution)　environment if we postpone the virtual conference schedule to secure their time for preparation by EasyChair staff. So it is impossible to start our test-drive from 13 July as scheduled.

Therefore we decided to set our new test-drive period; 31 August to 4 September.

Registration and Payment for Publication

Thank you for waiting. We have set the fee for publishing your paper in the Proceedings of the ECOS 2020 at 6,500 JPY per paper. Please pay the fee by June 3, 2020 through the online registration system "Apollon" operated by Nippon Travel Agency. Only credit cards are allowed for the payment.

Only one person (for example, anyone of the authors) should make the registration as the representative to pay for multiple papers simultaneously. The number of papers is set at five at the maximum per person. However, if you add other persons as sub representatives in the registration, you can add more five papers per additional person.

In the registration, you should inform us of both the paper numbers on EasyChair and the paper titles. You can print the invoice and the payment confirmation for all the papers.

Cancellation of "on-site and in-person" conference and following steps

Dear authors and prospective attendees,

We appreciate your great contributions by submitting abstracts and full papers to ECOS 2020.

We have observed the situation of the new coronavirus, COVID-19 for these several weeks. Unpleasantly, the coronavirus has spread worldwide, and especially Europe and North America have lapsed into much worse situations than Japan. We cannot foresee that coronavirus will have been stamped out in three months. Considering the health of the attendees and conference staff as well as travel restrictions, we have decided to cancel holding the ECOS 2020 "on-site and in-person" conference, in agreement with the ECOS 2020 local organizing and scientific committees. We will proceed to the following steps based on the policy we showed you on February 28.

We will continue to review papers and publish them in the Proceeding of ECOS 2020. In addition, all the papers included in the proceedings will be considered to have been presented officially at the ECOS 2020 conference, and we will deliver the proceedings to the registrants. If you prefer not to include your paper in the proceedings, we will exclude your papers. We will also select papers from the proceedings to recommend them to special issues of some journals through review and selection processes.
We have to pay cancellation fees to the conference center and others. We will therefore offer that you pay a reasonable fee for the publication of your proceeding’s papers instead of your conference registration fee. We have roughly estimated this publication fee at one fifth or one fourth of the regular registration fee per paper.
After the review process, we will inform the authors of the publication fee and ask the authors to let us know whether you prefer the publication of your paper in the proceedings and to pay for the publication.
We will consider the feasibility of a web-based (online or offline) conference. Even if we will determine to do it, we have to begin its preparation from now. As it may not be perfect, we consider such a conference as just a trial for the future. Thus, your participation in it will be not mandatory but optional.

We appreciate your understanding of the continuing unpleasant situation and of our reluctant decision. Thank you again for your cooperation.

Policy Considering Influence of New Coronavirus

Dear authors and prospective attendees,

We appreciate your great contributions by submitting abstracts and full papers for reviewing for ECOS 2020.

In recent weeks, unfortunately, a new coronavirus, COVID-19, which could not be traced, appears to be spreading in Japan. Considering the health of the attendees and conference staff, as well as possible travel limitations, we are now very worried about whether we can hold the ECOS 2020 conference at the planned dates of June 29 - July 3, 2020 (about four months from now). We must decide within a month whether we should go ahead with the conference or not, before your registration and travel reservations, as well as before our final preparations and payment to the convention center and others. We have, therefore, set the following policy, in agreement with the ECOS 2020 local organizing and scientific committees:

We will decide by the end of March, 2020, before your registration deadline, whether we will hold the ECOS 2020 conference as planned or cancel it.
In consultation with the Japanese and international health authorities guidelines, we would determine by the end of March, 2020 whether the infection becomes or tends to become widespread, in which case we will cancel the ECOS 2020 conference.
Even if we cancel the ECOS 2020 conference, we will continue to review papers and publish them in the Proceeding of ECOS 2020. In addition, all the papers included in the proceedings will be considered to have been presented officially at the ECOS 2020 conference, and we will deliver the proceedings to the registrants. If you prefer not to include your paper in these proceedings, we will exclude your papers. We will also select papers from the proceedings to recommend them to special issues of some journals through review and selection processes.
Even if we will cancel the ECOS 2020 conference, we still have to pay cancellation fees to the conference center and others. We will therefore offer that you pay a reasonable fee for the publication of your proceeding’s papers instead of your conference registration fee.
We would unfortunately be unable to refund any travel and hotel reservations cancellation fees that you may have incurred because of our conference cancellation decision.

We appreciate your understanding of the current very unpleasant situation and of our policy. Thank you again for your cooperation.
